How to Write a Good Story About Teaching

Sam Chaltain, a passionate advocate for public, democratic education explains in a handy Education Week blog post how to write a good story about teaching. As he points out, what helps people most to understand our work is the immediate on-the-scene picture of what great teaching and learning look like and sound like. He calls this the emotional side of it, but we’d say that a lively story communicates information that neither a dry explanation of policy nor a strong advocacy plea provide.

So follow Sam’s advice, and write a story that depicts a moment that mattered in YOUR classroom. Show it to your principal to get his/her support for publishing it, and then send it to a local newspaper, or put it up on your own blog. OR send it to us via our email link or our Facebook page and we’ll help to get it published.

PS: Be sure to watch the Powerpoint and short video embedded in Sam’s post!
